The City

Zaozhuang City is situated in the south of Shandong Province. It was where the saint of science in ancient China, Mo-tse was born. The city lies against the picturesque Yimeng Mountain on the east, and faces the green water of Weishanhu Lake on the west. The Grand Canal runs through its south, and her neighbor on the north, is the home of Confucius, Qufu. It has a population of 3.26 million living on the land of 4,550 sq kilometers. Under the jurisdiction of the city, there are five districts, including Shizhong, Yicheng, Shanting, Taierzhuang and Xuecheng, and a city called Tengzhou.

The traffic of Zaozhuang is very convenient thanks to her superior geographical location. Within 50 kilometers one can reach four airports, which are located in Xuzhou, Linyungang, Jining and Linyi; and she has 3 gates out to the sea, located respectively in Shijiu, Lanshan and Linyungang. Railway and highways, including Jing-Hu railway, Jing-Fu Expressway, No.104 and No. 206 National highway run though her territory: high ways above the second grade within the city amount to 577.3 kilometers, making a density of 35.7 kilometers per sq kilometer, and the railway runs for totally 288.5 kilometers. The world-known Grand Canal, flows through the south of the city area, and reaches Jiangsu, Anhui, and Shanghai, until Zhejiang downstream; plenty of quality coal, cement and plaster are shipped every year through this canal to many places.

The city has a self-contained postal and telecommunication system, which includes programmable exchangers adopting optic cable, microwave and digital methods. Telephones in both urban and rural areas are all connected to the domestic and international automatic switch networks, ready for communications with more than 180 countries and regions across the world at any time.
